Scale
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp oregano
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Melt Butter: Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat to prepare the base of the sauce.
- Sauté Garlic: Add minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, releasing its aroma without browning.
- Add Flour and Seasonings: Whisk in the all-purpose flour, ground black pepper, salt, and oregano until the mixture is well combined and forms a smooth paste.
- Incorporate Milk: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps from forming, creating a smooth sauce base.
- Thicken Sauce: Continue whisking occasionally as the sauce cooks until it thickens to your desired consistency, usually several minutes.
- Add Parmesan: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese until the sauce becomes creamy and smooth.
- Serve or Store: Use the sauce immediately on your pizza, or cover and refrigerate for later use.
Notes
- The sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
- If the sauce becomes too thick after chilling, gently reheat and whisk in a splash of milk to reach desired consistency.
- For a stronger garlic flavor, add an extra clove of minced garlic in step 2.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for best flavor and smooth texture.
