Description

These White Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms are a savory and cheesy appetizer perfect for any party or gathering. Featuring tender mushroom caps filled with a delicious mixture of sautéed mushroom stems, garlic, onions, sharp white cheddar, Parmesan, and fresh parsley, baked until golden and bubbly. Easy to make and bursting with flavor, they are an ideal vegetarian dish to impress your guests.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mushrooms:

  • 20 large white button mushrooms, stems removed and finely chopped

For the Filling:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp white cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Mushroom Caps: Clean the mushroom caps thoroughly by wiping them with a damp cloth. Set the caps aside while you prepare the filling using the stems.
  3. Sauté Filling Base: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the finely chopped mushroom stems, minced garlic, and chopped onion. Sauté for 4–5 minutes until the mixture is softened and fragrant, creating the flavor base for the stuffing.
  4. Add Seasonings and Breadcrumbs: Stir in the plain bread crumbs, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to the sautéed mixture. Remove the pan from heat and let it cool slightly to avoid melting the cheese prematurely.
  5. Mix in Cheeses and Herbs: Once cooled, fold in the shredded sharp white cheddar, grated Parmesan cheese, and chopped fresh parsley. This creates a creamy, flavorful filling.
  6. Stuff Mushroom Caps: Spoon the filling mixture into each of the mushroom caps, pressing down gently to pack it in evenly.
  7. Bake the Mushrooms: Arrange the stuffed mushroom caps on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the filling is golden and bubbly.
  8. Serve Warm: Remove from oven and serve the mushrooms warm for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • For an extra kick of flavor, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the filling mixture.
  • These stuffed mushrooms can be prepared ahead of time and baked right before serving, making them perfect for entertaining and parties.
  • If you want a gluten-free option, substitute the bread crumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Use fresh herbs if possible for a brighter flavor.
