Ingredients
- 1/2 cup cooked sweet potato, mashed
- 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (ensure it’s xylitol-free)
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt (unsweetened, or use Greek yogurt)
- 1/2 cup water or low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for a little extra sweetness)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sweet Potato: Cook the sweet potato by boiling or baking it until soft. Once cooked, peel the skin and mash the flesh until smooth. Alternatively, canned sweet potato puree without added sugar or spices can be used.
- Blend the Ingredients: In a blender or food processor, add the mashed sweet potato, peanut butter, plain yogurt, and water or chicken broth. Blend until smooth and creamy. If you prefer a thinner consistency, add more water or broth gradually until you reach the desired texture.
- Sweeten (Optional): If desired, stir in a tablespoon of honey to add a little extra sweetness. Ensure the honey is safe for your dog and use only a small amount.
- Serve: Pour the smoothie into your dog’s bowl or into ice cube trays for a cool treat. For a refreshing frozen snack, freeze the smoothie in popsicle molds, ideal for hot days.
Notes
- Ensure the peanut butter is xylitol-free, as xylitol is toxic to dogs.
- Use plain, unsweetened yogurt to avoid added sugars and harmful ingredients.
- The honey is optional and should be given in moderation, especially for dogs with diabetes or weight issues.
- If using chicken broth, choose a low-sodium variety to keep sodium levels safe for dogs.
- Always introduce new foods gradually to monitor for any allergic reactions.
