Ingredients
Scale
Protein & Sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb ground turkey (lean or extra lean)
- 1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 to 4 teaspoons Sriracha (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
Vegetables & Grains
- 12 oz broccoli florets, cut into bite-size pieces
- 3 cups cooked brown rice (or rice of your choice)
Garnishes
- Sesame seeds
- Green onions, sliced
- Extra Sriracha sauce (optional)
- Extra sweet chili sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Turkey: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until fully cooked and no longer pink, about 7-8 minutes.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a glass measuring cup or bowl, whisk together sweet chili sauce, honey, Sriracha, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, garlic powder, and freshly grated ginger until well combined.
- Combine Turkey with Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked ground turkey in the skillet. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes. Taste and season with salt if needed.
- Steam the Broccoli: While the sauce simmers, steam the broccoli florets until just tender but still bright green, about 4-5 minutes. Do not overcook to maintain crunch and nutrients.
- Assemble the Bowls: Divide the cooked brown rice evenly among four bowls. Top each with a portion of the sweet and spicy ground turkey mixture, then add steamed broccoli on the side or on top.
- Add Garnishes and Serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions over each bowl. Add extra Sriracha or sweet chili sauce as desired for additional flavor and heat. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of Sriracha to control the spice level to your preference.
- Use lean or extra lean ground turkey to keep the dish lower in fat.
- Brown rice adds more fiber and nutrients, but you can substitute with white rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
- To steam broccoli, you can use a steamer basket or microwave with a small amount of water covered tightly.
- This recipe reheats well and makes great leftovers for meal prep.
