Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam or strawberry preserves
Toppings
- 24 milk chocolate kisses (unwrapped)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and cornstarch. Set this mixture aside as you prepare the wet ingredients.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using a mixer or hand whisk until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add Wet Ingredients: To the creamed butter and sugar, add the egg, vanilla extract, and strawberry jam. Stir well until all ingredients are fully combined and smooth.
- Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring carefully to fully incorporate without overmixing, forming a soft dough.
- Form Dough Balls: Roll the dough into 1-inch balls using your hands or a cookie scoop. Place these balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies turn lightly golden and the centers appear set.
- Add Chocolate Kisses: As soon as the cookies come out of the oven and are still warm, gently press one unwrapped milk chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie to create the signature ‘kiss’ topping. Let them cool on the baking sheet briefly before transferring to a cooling rack.
- Cool and Dust: Once the cookies have completely cooled, optionally dust them with powdered sugar for an elegant and festive finish before serving.
Notes
- Ensure butter is softened but not melted for proper creaming and texture.
- Strawberry jam can be substituted with raspberry or cherry preserves for a different flavor twist.
- Do not overbake to maintain the soft and tender texture of the cookies.
- Press chocolate kisses gently to avoid cracking the cookies.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
