Description

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with this festive Brownie Trifle featuring layers of rich chocolate brownies, creamy instant chocolate pudding, and fluffy whipped topping, garnished with green sprinkles and semi-sweet chocolate chips. This easy-to-make dessert is perfect for parties and family gatherings, combining delicious textures and flavors in a visually stunning glass trifle bowl.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Layer

  • 1 batch brownie mix or homemade brownies (enough for an 8×8 inch pan)

Pudding Layer

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix (3.9 oz)
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon mint extract

Topping and Garnish

  • 1 container whipped topping (about 8 oz)
  • Green sprinkles, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Brownies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking pan to ensure the brownies do not stick.
  2. Bake Brownies: Prepare the brownie mix according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely before proceeding.
  3. Make Chocolate Pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together the whole milk and instant chocolate pudding mix for about 2 minutes until the pudding thickens. If you want a minty flavor, stir in 1/2 teaspoon of mint extract. Set aside to let the pudding fully set.
  4. Assemble First Layer: Cut the cooled brownies into squares. In a large trifle bowl or glass serving dish, layer half of the brownie squares evenly as the base layer. Spoon half of the chocolate pudding over the brownies and spread gently. Finally, add half of the whipped topping over the pudding to complete this layer.
  5. Assemble Second Layer: Repeat the layering process with the remaining brownie squares, pudding, and whipped topping.
  6. Garnish and Chill: Sprinkle green sprinkles and semi-sweet chocolate chips over the top whipped topping layer for decoration. Refrigerate the trifle for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to chill before serving.

Notes

  • For a stronger mint flavor, increase the mint extract to 1 teaspoon, but add gradually to avoid overpowering the dessert.
  • This trifle can be assembled a few hours ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to serve.
  • Substitute dairy milk and whipped topping with non-dairy alternatives to make this dessert dairy-free.
  • Use homemade brownies for a more personalized flavor and texture.
  • Leftovers should be stored covered in the refrigerator and consumed within 2-3 days for best taste.
