Description

These Pizza Flavored Burgers combine the juicy goodness of grilled beef patties with classic Italian pizza flavors like oregano, basil, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese. Perfectly toasted buns and optional fresh basil garnish complete these delicious, easy-to-make burgers that bring the beloved flavors of pizza to your grill.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Assembly & Toppings

  • 4 burger buns
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (pizza sauce can also be used)
  • 4 slices fresh mozzarella cheese (or shredded mozzarella)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Olive oil (for grilling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat and lightly grease with olive oil to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare Patties: In a bowl, combine the ground beef, grated Parmesan, dried oregano, dried basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then form the mixture into four equal-sized patties.
  3. Grill Patties: Place the patties on the preheated grill. Cook for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and grill for another 4-5 minutes. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for well-done or adjust to your preferred doneness.
  4. Add Toppings: In the last minute of grilling, spoon one tablespoon of marinara sauce onto each patty. Top each with a slice of mozzarella cheese, then close the grill lid to melt the cheese nicely.
  5. Toast Buns: While the patties finish cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until they’re golden brown and slightly crispy.
  6. Assemble Burgers: Place each cooked patty onto a toasted bun. Add extra marinara sauce, fresh basil leaves, or more mozzarella cheese if desired for an extra burst of flavor.
  7. Serve: Serve the pizza-flavored burgers hot and enjoy the fusion of classic burger comfort with vibrant Italian flavors.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef for a leaner, healthier option.
  • Using fresh mozzarella slices provides a creamy texture that melts perfectly, but shredded mozzarella works well too.
  • Fresh basil leaves add a lovely aroma and brighten the flavors but are optional.
  • Ensure patties are not overworked when mixing to keep them tender.
  • Grilling times may vary depending on grill heat and patty thickness; using a meat thermometer helps achieve perfect doneness.
  • If you don’t have a grill, you can cook the patties in a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat.
