Description

This savory and flavorful Onion Beef Fried Rice is a quick and satisfying meal that combines tender beef, aromatic onions, and fluffy jasmine rice in a delicious stir-fry. Perfect for a busy weeknight dinner!

Ingredients

Scale

Jasmine Rice:

  • 3 cups cooked jasmine rice (preferably day-old)

Beef:

  • 1/2 pound flank steak or sirloin (thinly sliced)

Sauces and Oils:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (divided)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Vegetables:

  • 1 medium yellow onion (sliced)
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)

Eggs:

  • 2 eggs (beaten)

Seasonings:

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate Beef: In a small bowl, marinate the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and set aside for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Cook Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook for 2–3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté Onions: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil and sauté the sliced yellow onion for 2–3 minutes until slightly softened. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Scramble Eggs: Push the onions to one side and pour the beaten eggs into the empty side of the pan, scrambling until just set.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked rice, breaking up any clumps. Stir in the cooked beef, green onions, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, remaining soy sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, and salt to taste. Toss everything together and stir-fry for another 2–3 minutes until heated through and well combined.
  6. Serve: Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use cold, day-old rice for best texture.
  • For a spicier version, add a dash of chili oil or sriracha.
  • You can also add frozen peas or carrots for extra color and nutrition.
