Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Toppings
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or 1 teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make the dough: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Shape the dough: Roll the risen dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Transfer the dough carefully onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Prepare garlic butter and brush: Stir together the melted unsalted butter and minced garlic. Brush this garlic butter mixture evenly over the surface of the dough to infuse flavor.
- Add cheese and seasonings: Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and parsley over the garlic butter layer.
- Bake the breadsticks: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the edges of the bread are lightly golden.
- Cool and serve: Remove the breadsticks from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Slice them into individual breadsticks and serve warm for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes before baking to add a spicy kick.
- You can substitute mozzarella with a blend of mozzarella and provolone cheese for a richer taste.
- Reheat leftover breadsticks in the oven at 350°F for a few minutes to restore crispness and warmth.
