Description

These Garlic Beef Croquettes feature a flavorful ground beef mixture infused with garlic, onions, and spices, coated in crispy golden breadcrumbs and fried to perfection. Perfect as a savory appetizer or party snack, they combine a creamy interior with a crunchy exterior for a delicious bite every time.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Coating and Frying

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the finely chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Cook Beef and Season: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it up as it cooks. Stir in salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and ground nutmeg evenly with the meat.
  3. Thicken Mixture: Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the beef mixture and stir thoroughly to coat. Gradually pour in the whole milk while stirring constantly to avoid lumps, allowing the mixture to thicken; cook for another 1 to 2 minutes on medium heat.
  4. Add Parsley and Breadcrumbs: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped parsley and 1 cup of breadcrumbs. Mix until fully combined.
  5. Chill Mixture: Transfer the mixture into a bowl and let it cool to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up, which will make shaping easier.
  6. Shape Croquettes: Once chilled, shape the beef mixture into small logs or oval-shaped croquettes, roughly 2 to 3 inches long.
  7. Coat Croquettes: Dip each croquette into the beaten egg, then thoroughly roll it in breadcrumbs to form an even coating on all sides.
  8. Heat Oil: Pour enough oil into a deep skillet to submerge the croquettes halfway and heat it to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Fry Croquettes: Fry the croquettes in batches, cooking each side for approximately 2 to 3 minutes until they achieve a crispy golden brown crust. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  10. Drain and Serve: Remove croquettes with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce such as garlic aioli or spicy mustard.

Notes

  • These croquettes freeze well—shape and coat them, then freeze before frying for easy future meals.
  • For extra flavor, add a tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese to the breadcrumb coating.
  • Serve with garlic aioli, spicy mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce for enhanced taste.
  • Ensure oil temperature is maintained at 350°F to prevent greasy croquettes.
  • Use fresh parsley for the best aroma and flavor.
