Description

A quick and flavorful Asian-inspired bok choy stir-fry recipe featuring fresh garlic, ginger, and soy sauce, perfect as a healthy and vibrant side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound bok choy, washed and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon water or broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil for finishing

Instructions

  1. Heat Oil: Heat the vegetable or sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, preparing the pan to infuse flavors quickly.
  2. Add Aromatics: Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 20 to 30 seconds until fragrant and aromatic without burning.
  3. Cook Bok Choy Stems: Add the chopped bok choy stems first and stir-fry for 2 minutes until they become slightly tender yet crisp.
  4. Add Leaves and Seasonings: Add the leafy green parts of the bok choy along with soy sauce, optional oyster sauce, salt, pepper, and water or broth. Stir-fry for 2 to 3 more minutes until the leaves wilt and the stems become crisp-tender.
  5. Finish and Serve: Remove the pan from heat and drizzle with sesame oil for a fragrant finishing touch before serving immediately.

Notes

  • For added protein, stir in tofu, shrimp, or sliced chicken during the cooking process.
  • A splash of rice vinegar or chili oil can be added to enhance the flavor profile.
  • Ensure to not overcook the bok choy to retain its crisp texture and vibrant color.
