Description

A classic and easy Salisbury Steak recipe featuring tender ground beef patties seasoned with savory spices and topped with a rich homemade brown gravy. Perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner, served best with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Patties

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

For the Gravy

  • 2 packets Brown Gravy Mix (approximately 1 oz each)
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: Add all patty ingredients to a large bowl. Use clean hands to combine thoroughly. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and flatten each into a patty shape.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook until browned on both sides and cooked through, approximately 4-5 minutes per side. Adjust heat if necessary to prevent burning. Once cooked, remove patties and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy: In a bowl, whisk together gravy mix, hot water, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  4. Simmer Patties in Gravy: Pour the gravy mixture into the skillet with any remaining juices. Bring to a simmer over low heat. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and stir gently. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes until gravy thickens slightly. If the gravy becomes too thick, add an additional ¼ cup hot water and stir.
  5. Serve: Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, spooning gravy over each patty. These go wonderfully with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • Adjust cooking time to ensure patties are fully cooked through.
  • If gravy is too thick, thin with additional hot water gradually.
  • Leftover Salisbury steak can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • Great served with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, or rice.
