Description

Dollywood Cinnamon Bread is a cozy and flavorful treat featuring soft bread dough coated with a buttery cinnamon-sugar mixture, baked to golden perfection, and topped with a sweet powdered sugar glaze. Perfect for breakfast or a comforting snack, this recipe transforms frozen bread dough into a warm, aromatic delight.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread:

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 pound frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (sprinkled on top)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Spray a loaf pan lightly with cooking spray and line it with parchment paper. Lightly spray the inside of the parchment paper as well to prevent sticking.
  2. Thaw the Dough: Place your frozen bread dough loaf into the parchment-lined loaf pan and thaw according to the package instructions, usually between 4 to 7 hours, until fully thawed and slightly risen.
  3. Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon; set this cinnamon-sugar mixture aside for coating the dough.
  4. Cut Slits in Dough: Using a sharp knife, slice 5 to 6 horizontal slits across the top of the dough, cutting about half the depth of the dough. These slits allow the bread to pull apart easily after baking.
  5. Coat with Butter and Cinnamon Sugar: Melt the butter and generously brush it onto the top and inside the slits of the dough. Then liberally sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the buttered surface until fully coated.
  6. Let Rise: Place the loaf pan in a warm place and let the dough rise for 30 minutes to develop a light, fluffy texture before baking.
  7. Bake: Once risen, sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar evenly over the top of the dough. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Make Glaze: While the bread bakes, whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if necessary to achieve a drizzle-able glaze.
  9. Glaze and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly after baking. Drizzle the prepared glaze over the top of the warm bread. Serve immediately and enjoy the comforting, sweet treat.

Notes

  • Ensure your bread dough is fully thawed before starting the recipe to ensure even rising and baking.
  • Adjust the amount of milk in the glaze to achieve your preferred consistency—thicker for a heavier glaze, thinner for a lighter drizzle.
  • For an extra touch, consider adding chopped nuts or raisins into the slits before baking if you like.
  • Store leftovers wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Reheat gently before serving.
