Description

Delicious Cruffins are a delightful fusion of croissants and muffins made from flaky puff pastry rolled with cinnamon sugar and optional fillings. Perfect for a breakfast treat or a sweet dessert, these golden-baked pastries are easy to prepare and offer a crispy, buttery texture with a soft, flavorful inside.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

Filling & Topping

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Optional jam or chocolate spread for filling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the muffin tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin to prevent sticking.
  2. Roll out the pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry into a rectangular shape to make it easier to spread the filling evenly.
  3. Apply butter and sugar mixture: Brush the entire surface of the pastry with melted butter. Then sprinkle the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon evenly over the buttered pastry. Optionally, add a thin layer of jam or chocolate spread for added flavor.
  4. Roll and slice: Starting from the long edge, carefully roll the pastry into a tight log. Once rolled, cut the log lengthwise in half to expose the layered interior.
  5. Shape the cruffins: With the cut sides facing outward, take each half and roll it into a spiral shape similar to a cinnamon roll. Place each spiral into the greased muffin cups.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until the cruffins are golden brown and have puffed up nicely.
  7. Finish and serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Dust the tops with powdered sugar before serving warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Experiment with different fillings such as lemon curd, Nutella, or various fruit preserves for unique flavor profiles.
  • For an extra crispy and caramelized top, sprinkle a little granulated sugar over the cruffins just before baking.
