For the Wassail:

  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 apple (sliced)
  • 1 orange (sliced)

Optional for Adult Version:

  • 1/2 to 1 cup spiced rum or bourbon


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wassail: In a large pot or slow cooker, combine apple cider, orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and brown sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Add Spices: Add cloves, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, allspice, and the sliced apple and orange.
  3. Simmer: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low and let it simmer uncovered for 30–45 minutes.
  4. Optional: If using alcohol, stir in spiced rum or bourbon just before serving.
  5. Serve: Ladle into mugs, garnish with additional apple slices or cinnamon sticks if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum or bourbon.
  • This recipe can also be made in a slow cooker on low heat for 2–3 hours.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated.
