For the Wassail:
- 4 cups apple cider
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 6 whole cloves
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 apple (sliced)
- 1 orange (sliced)
Optional for Adult Version:
- 1/2 to 1 cup spiced rum or bourbon
Instructions
- Prepare the Wassail: In a large pot or slow cooker, combine apple cider, orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and brown sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
- Add Spices: Add cloves, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, allspice, and the sliced apple and orange.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low and let it simmer uncovered for 30–45 minutes.
- Optional: If using alcohol, stir in spiced rum or bourbon just before serving.
- Serve: Ladle into mugs, garnish with additional apple slices or cinnamon sticks if desired, and enjoy!
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum or bourbon.
- This recipe can also be made in a slow cooker on low heat for 2–3 hours.
