Description

Celebrate the holiday season with these festive Christmas Pancakes, featuring a fun green-colored batter stacked into a charming Christmas tree shape. Topped with whipped cream, colorful sprinkles, candies, and a dusting of powdered sugar, these pancakes make a delightful breakfast or brunch treat that’s as joyful to make as it is to eat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • Green food coloring (amount as desired to tint batter)

Toppings & Decorations

  • Whipped cream, for topping
  • Assorted sprinkles and candies, for decoration
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt to evenly combine and aerate the mixture.
  2. Combine wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, thoroughly mix the milk, egg, and melted butter until the mixture is smooth and fully blended.
  3. Form the batter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined to avoid overmixing. Add green food coloring a few drops at a time, stirring until the batter is evenly tinted with a festive green color.
  4. Preheat skillet or griddle. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking and ensure even browning.
  5. Cook pancakes in tree shape. Pour batter onto the skillet to form small circular pancakes, stacking smaller circles on top of larger ones as they cook to create the shape of a Christmas tree. Cook each pancake for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Assemble the Christmas tree. On a serving plate, stack the pancakes starting with the largest at the bottom and tapering to the smallest on top to mimic the shape of a Christmas tree.
  7. Decorate and serve. Top the pancake tree with whipped cream to resemble snow, sprinkle with assorted sprinkles and candies for color and festivity, then dust lightly with powdered sugar. Serve immediately to enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of green food coloring to reach your preferred shade of green.
  • Use a non-stick skillet or griddle to avoid pancakes sticking and ensure easy flipping.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with almond or oat milk and use a dairy-free butter alternative.
  • Pancakes can be kept warm in a low oven while cooking the remaining batter.
  • Get creative with decorations such as mini chocolate chips, edible glitter, or crushed peppermint candies for a more festive look.
