Description

Chocolate Bird Nests are a delightful no-bake treat perfect for Easter or spring celebrations. Made by coating chow mein noodles or pretzel sticks with melted chocolate, these charming nests are topped with colorful candy eggs, creating a fun and festive dessert that kids will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 2 cups chow mein noodles or pretzel sticks

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (optional)
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips (optional)

Decoration

  • Candy eggs (such as mini eggs or jelly beans) for decorating

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Melt Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted.
  3. Combine Ingredients: If using, add peanut butter and butterscotch chips to the melted chocolate and continue heating briefly until the mixture is fully melted and well combined.
  4. Mix Noodles: Gently fold in the chow mein noodles or pretzel sticks, ensuring they are evenly coated in the chocolate mixture.
  5. Shape Nests: Using a spoon, scoop small portions of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, shaping them into nest-like circles with a small indent in the center of each nest.
  6. Add Candy Eggs: While the nests are still soft, place 2 to 3 candy eggs into the center indent of each nest for decoration.
  7. Chill: Refrigerate the nests for 30 minutes or until the chocolate has fully set and hardened.
  8. Serve: Serve the chocolate bird nests chilled or at room temperature for a delightful treat.

Notes

  • You can substitute the chow mein noodles with shredded coconut or crushed cornflakes for different textures.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the peanut butter and use sunflower seed butter or increase the amount of chocolate chips.
  • These nests are perfect for Easter celebrations, spring parties, or as fun kids’ activities.
