Ingredients

Scale

Chili Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 12 teaspoons chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat and sauté onion: Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  2. Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more, releasing its aroma.
  3. Incorporate tomato paste: Add the tomato paste and cook for another minute to deepen its flavor.
  4. Add remaining ingredients: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper.
  5. Simmer: Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook uncovered for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.
  6. Adjust seasoning and blend: Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Let the sauce cool slightly, then blend with an immersion blender for a smoother texture if desired.
  7. Serve: Serve the chili sauce warm or chilled as a flavorful condiment.
