Scale
Sandwich Ingredients
- 2 slices bread (sourdough recommended)
- 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded or sliced
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Ensure the chicken breast is cooked thoroughly and shredded or sliced into bite-sized pieces. Season the chicken with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce evenly on one side of each bread slice. On one slice, layer the prepared chicken over the marinara, then sprinkle both the grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Optionally, add dried basil and garlic powder for extra flavor. Finish by placing the second bread slice on top with the sauce side facing inwards.
- Cook the Sandwich: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add one tablespoon of olive oil or butter. Place the sandwich in the skillet and press gently with a spatula. Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheeses are melted.
- Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it rest off the heat for one minute to allow the filling to set slightly. Cut as desired and serve warm for the best taste experience.
Notes
- Using sourdough bread adds a nice tangy flavor and holds up well to the sauce and fillings.
- For extra crispiness, you can add a little more butter or olive oil while cooking.
- Feel free to add fresh basil or oregano for a fresher herb flavor.
- If preferred, use pre-cooked rotisserie chicken to save time.
- This recipe makes one generous sandwich; double the ingredients for more servings.
