Description

These Cheesy Jalapeno Popper Puff Pastry Straws are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack that packs a flavorful punch. With a creamy, cheesy filling and a spicy kick from jalapeños, these puff pastry twists are perfect for any gathering or as a tasty treat for yourself.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Cheese Filling:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 12 jalapeños, finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Garnish (optional):

  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives or green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, shredded cheddar, jalapeños, garlic, paprika, and salt until smooth.
  3. Prepare the pastry: Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle. Spread the cheese mixture on one half, fold over, and press to seal.
  4. Cut and twist: Slice the pastry into strips, twist each strip, and place on the baking sheet.
  5. Brush with egg wash: Whisk together the egg and milk, then brush each twist with the mixture.
  6. Bake: Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Garnish and serve: Cool slightly, garnish with chives if desired, and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • These can be made ahead and stored in the fridge before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven for a few minutes for a crisp texture.
  • For extra heat, keep jalapeño seeds or add cayenne pepper.
