Ingredients
Scale
Bread Bowl
- 1 large bread boule (round loaf)
Shrimp
- 8-10 medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
Cheese Sauce
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Garnish
- 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Bread Bowl: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the top off the bread boule and hollow out the center to create a bowl. Reserve the removed bread pieces for dipping later.
- Cook Shrimp: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, then sear for 1-2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are fully cooked. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- Make Cheese Sauce: In the same skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Pour in the heavy cream and bring it to a gentle simmer. Gradually whisk in the Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to your taste.
- Assemble Bread Bowl: Place the hollowed bread bowl on a baking sheet. Pour the prepared cheese sauce into the bread bowl, then top with the cooked shrimp evenly.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the bread turn golden brown and the cheese sauce is bubbly and heated through.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the top and serve immediately. Enjoy the bread bowl with the reserved hollowed-out bread for dipping into the cheesy shrimp sauce.
Notes
- You can substitute the bread boule for sourdough or a large ciabatta loaf depending on availability.
- For an extra kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the cheese sauce.
- Make sure to not overcook the shrimp to keep them tender and juicy.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella for the best melting texture and flavor.
- Leftover cheese sauce can be refrigerated and warmed gently on stovetop before serving.
