Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Batter Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Bisquick or all-purpose baking mix
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
Optional Garnish
- Pickles for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate to prevent sticking.
- Cook Ground Beef Mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and finely chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion is tender. Drain excess fat, then season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Assemble Beef Layer: Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture evenly in the prepared pie plate. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese uniformly over the beef layer.
- Make the Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk together Bisquick baking mix, milk, eggs, ketchup, and mustard until smooth and well combined.
- Combine & Bake: Pour the batter evenly over the beef and cheese layers in the pie plate, making sure it covers everything evenly.
- Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool & Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Slice and serve warm, optionally garnished with pickles for that classic cheeseburger flavor.
Notes
- Substitute cheddar cheese with pepper jack or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
- For a lower-carb version, omit the Bisquick and use a mixture of eggs and cream to create a crust-like layer.
- This dish reheats well, making it an excellent option for quick lunches or leftovers.
