Ingredients
Scale
Sauce
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/3 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes
Main Ingredients
- 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup water
Garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth. Add beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Stir well and set aside to allow the flavors to meld.
- Cook the ramen: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add ramen noodles and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until tender but still firm. Drain the noodles and rinse briefly under cold water to halt cooking. Toss them with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking.
- Sear the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the sirloin steak strips with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add steak strips to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 2 to 3 minutes per side depending on thickness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the broccoli: In the same skillet, add 1/2 cup water and the broccoli florets. Cover and steam for about 3 to 4 minutes until the broccoli is tender yet crisp. Remove the lid and let any remaining water evaporate.
- Combine ingredients: Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet with the broccoli. Add the prepared ramen noodles to the skillet and toss to combine.
- Add the sauce: Pour the reserved sauce over the noodle, steak, and broccoli mixture. Stir well and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes over medium heat until the sauce thickens and evenly coats all ingredients, heating through completely.
- Serve: Transfer the beef and broccoli ramen stir fry to serving plates. Garnish with sesame seeds as desired and enjoy immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to control salt levels in the dish.
- Rinsing the noodles after cooking prevents them from becoming mushy.
- You can substitute sirloin with flank steak or ribeye for a different flavor and texture.
- For extra crunch, add sliced bell peppers or carrots with the broccoli during steaming.
- To make this dish gluten free, substitute regular soy sauce with tamari and ensure ramen noodles are gluten free.
